John Espley, MLS, Principal Librarian
John Espley has worked with VTLS since the beginning of the system at Virginia Tech where he was a cataloger at Carol M. Newman Library. In 1975, Espley was appointed as the cataloging department's representative to the library's design committee and gradually increased his involvement with the automation project until he was working full time with the system. Espley has worked in many capacities for VTLS including Customer Support Librarian and as Director of Customer Services.
Espley also represents VTLS at the American Library Association meetings and other library conferences.
Espley, a graduate of Brigham Young University's Library School, is recognized as an expert on MARC formats and has served on the USMARC Advisory Committee. Espley's assignments in the past have included customer services, education and training, and special projects as assigned by the president and vice-president.
