The University of Oxford makes repository services VITAL!

Blacksburg, VA - VTLS Inc. announced today that Oxford University Library Services have chosen VITAL as its solution to offering the advantages of shared digital repositories to the University of Oxford and its member libraries.

Managing VITAL repositories will become another facet in the services offered by the Oxford University Library Services (OULS), which is the largest university library service in the United Kingdom, and one of the largest in the world. Most of the University's library facilities fall under the umbrella of OULS, including the Bodleian Library, which has been a legal depository for almost 400 years.

"Oxford University Library Services are very happy to have chosen VITAL," said Mr. Ronald Milne, acting director of Oxford University Library Services and Bodley's Librarian. "We have done so because the VTLS services built on its Fedora core have excellent adherence to key open standards. VITAL promises to deliver a high degree of interoperability with other repositories both within and outside Oxford, and close integration with our other major information systems, in particular, with Virtua, our new library management system."

"All of us at VTLS are extremely pleased that OULS has selected VITAL. We see this selection as verification that we, along with our development partners, have built a product that will meet the sophisticated needs of the most prestigious and respected research universities. We look forward to seeing the creative works, research and writings of Oxford made accessible by VITAL for the advancement of scholarship and education on a global basis," said Vinod Chachra, CEO of VTLS Inc.
