ARROW Project shows VITAL growth

Blacksburg, VA - VTLS and the ARROW (Australian Research Repositories Online to the World) Project are pleased to announce that a number of new institutions have signed contracts for the VITAL solution. The newest customers include:

  1. Central Queensland University
  2. University of Western Sydney
  3. University of South Australia
  4. Southern Queensland University

This brings the total number of Australian academic institutions running the VITAL solution to eight. VITAL is the premier institutional repository product from VTLS and uses the open source digital object repository FEDORA™. FEDORA™ was originally conceived and designed at Cornell University with funding from the National Science Foundation. The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation is funding the open-source FEDORA™ that is jointly being developed by the University of Virginia and Cornell University.

ARROW is a national project funded by the Australian Department of Education, Science and Training under the Commonwealth Government's Backing Australia's Ability initiative. The ARROW project is creating solutions to support best-practice institutional digital repositories comprising e-prints, digital theses and electronic publishing. A wide range of digital content types are managed in these repositories. The original ARROW consortium consists of Monash University as the lead institution, Swinburne University of Technology, the University of New South Wales and the National Library of Australia.

"We're happy to welcome these new partners to the ARROW project," said David Groenewegen, ARROW Project Manager, "and look forward to working with them, our existing partners and VTLS to build a vibrant and exciting ARROW community."

"We are truly pleased to see the customer base in Australia double and we're looking forward to adding even more in the near future," said Carl Grant, VTLS President and COO. "It is solid proof that new solutions such as VITAL, built in partnership with leading institutions, are leading the way."

Note: The FEDORA™ product developed by UVA and Cornell is not to be confused with Linux's Red Hat Fedora product.
