Yale University Libraries and VTLS Announce VINES Collaboration

Blacksburg, VA – In a move designed to reshape the way software vendors work with libraries, Yale University Libraries and VTLS have announced a new development collaboration effort called VINES (VItal Network of ExpertS).  The development collaboration will be centered on Yale University Libraries’ use of VTLS’ repository services product called VITAL.

Staff at Yale University Library and VTLS share a desire for product enhancement and development to take a different path from other ILS systems.  Yale’s desire was to ensure long-term innovation while avoiding the problems associated with developing code in-house.  They also wanted to try and leverage their investment by working closely with peer institutions and innovators to develop the most visionary products.  Over a period of two years, Yale tested VTLS’ VITAL extensively, identifying areas where they wished to collaborate and they worked with VTLS staff to create the organizational, membership-based VINES initiative.
