Blacksburg VA. - Advanced floating collections management is now available in the Virtua ILS. This new functionality is designed to improve the efficiency of floating collections management by providing a flexible and easily configurable solution. What distinguishes Virtua’s floating collections management from other solutions is the inclusion of a configurable collection-balancing function. If your library has a high-traffic branch receiving a large percentage of returned items, Virtua will ensure that the items are redistributed equally among branches according to library-defined parameters. Library staff can easily set and modify rules for floating collections based on item class and location. Libraries will have complete flexibility over what does and does not float and in setting the criteria for collection balancing.
Cece Yourshaw, VP for Operations at VTLS, said: “Libraries have never been under greater pressure to reduce costs while providing services that are truly patron-focused. Virtua Floating Collections achieves both goals by giving librarians powerful configuration options that make it easy for staff to manage while ensuring that balance is maintained.”
Floating collections management is the latest in a series of new features and enhanced workflows introduced in Virtua over the past 12 months. Many of these new features were developed to meet the rigorous needs of the Hong Kong Public Library, the busiest library in the world serving one of the most technologically advanced cities in the world. “VTLS has invested a lot of development resources to make sure Virtua meets the needs of the world’s largest and most demanding public libraries,” noted Vinod Chachra, President and CEO of VTLS. “Libraries owe it to themselves to look at VTLS to see why large and sophisticated libraries like Hong Kong Public Library and the Queens Borough Public Library in New York trust VTLS developed solutions.”
