– VTLS celebrated the coming of the New Year with the launch of Virtua at the Hong Kong Public Library, marking the successful end of a 21-month project. The project involved substantial software customization to meet HKPL’s operational requirements. In all, 309 specific customizations were designed and delivered. The launch of Virtua at one of the world's busiest libraries concluded a successful year that included the launch of exciting new product offerings as well as many new system implementations. In addition to Hong Kong Public Libraries VTLS installed 13 Virtua ILS systems, 12 Chamo Social OPAC’s, 2 ChaVis Global Discovery systems, 1 Visualizer and 3 new Fastrac RFID systems.
The launch of VITAL Media introduced a new concept in digital asset management, focusing on management and version control for real-world digital media publishing. The introduction of Vitation provides flexible citation management for Virtua and VITAL customers but is designed to also work with other web OPACs. Finally, the packaging and expansion of our Drupal services has produced custom Drupal modules that can be implemented as an alternative OPAC, while associated Drupal consulting and development services are now available from VTLS to help libraries use Drupal to unify their website and web applications.
The diversity of new VTLS customers reflects the global appeal of VTLS products. New Virtua customers included Rivers State University of Science and Technology and University of Calabar in Nigeria; University of Buraimi, Ibra College and the Ministry of Health in Oman; Indian Institute of Management in Ranchi, India; the Islamic Library of Brunei; the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center in Ghana; and 4 new customers in Malaysia: TAJ International College, KFCH International College, University of Management and Technology and the Malaysian Institute of Insurance. 2 current VTLS customers also chose to implement Fastrac RFID: Vaughan Public Libraries in Canada and the Catholic University of Lille in France, while 6 current Virtua customers implemented Chamo and ChaVis.
“The year 2011 has been a landmark year for VTLS. We have expanded our product offerings, we successfully implemented large and complex systems, and we have laid plans for exciting new developments. Our partnerships with key customers continue to grow and our financial results reflect our success,” said Vinod Chachra, President and CEO of VTLS Inc.
