VTLS EMEA Office Announces New Customers

Blacksburg, Va. – VTLS Inc. announced that the VTLS EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) office has secured two new customers and is upgrading seven existing customers. These customers are located in Ghana, UAE, Russia, Poland, Slovakia, Tunisia and Ireland.

The University of Education, Winneba, Ghana, signed a contract in October with VTLS for a Virtua system with plans to go live in early 2010. The main aim of UEW is to train teachers for the education system of Ghana. The University has 29 Academic Departments and Centres and six Faculties. It also has 12 Distance Education Regional Study Centres throughout the country.

“We viewed demonstrations and were satisfied Virtua could meet our needs. This was after a team of experts agreed that VTLS met the conditions spelt out for a world class vendor with a world class system,” said Valentina Bannerman, university librarian at UEW. “Our choice of Virtua was confirmed when I heard the university librarian at Makerere University, Uganda, describe it as robust.”

The British University in Dubai signed a contract for VTLS Virtua. Their focus is to provide world-class education, establishing Dubai as a regional hub for advanced learning and research. Their installation was completed in record time of six weeks. As of September 7, 2009, the system is live.

“It is a great pleasure to welcome these two outstanding universities to the growing family of VTLS customers. We are looking forward to a long-term relationship with them,” said Gemma Ros, manager of operations at VTLS Europe.

The African Development Bank in Tunisia, a Virtua user for several years, has just signed a hosting agreement with VTLS. In the next few weeks, the existing Virtua database will be moved to one of VTLS’ servers, and the technical staff of VTLS will oversee its hardware and software maintenance apart from the day-to-day operations. With this move, the African Development Bank seeks to improve their technical routines and optimize their resources.

In addition to these new sales, six existing customers have upgraded their Virtua systems or purchased services from VTLS. These customers are Siberian State Industrial University (Russia), Abu Dhabi University in Dubai (UAE), National Library of Ireland, Komenius University (Slovakia), Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Biruni network (Tunisia).
