You’re ready to start cataloging using RDA, but your current system doesn’t support it.  RDANow is designed to allow your library to get started with RDA without waiting for your ILS vendor to catch up.

RDANow lets you begin creating records using Resource Description and Access (RDA) Implementation One Scenario.  Your initial RDANow database will be created from your own data.  VTLS will analyze the data you extract from your database to determine the records that can be represented using FRBR, and will “FRBRize” these records to form your RDANow database.  For ongoing cataloging, a simplified interface is provided to facilitate the creation of Work, Expression, and Manifestation records as defined in the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR).

Your records in RDANow are linked to your own bibliographic database and become accessible to your users through your own web-based public catalog. Using web services, a link is added to records in your OPAC that redirects the user to the FRBRized records in RDANow.  The approach is similar to the method used to link book cover images and other enrichment content in a web OPAC.  A reverse link is also provided, allowing the user to return to your database.
RDANow is Software as a Service (SaaS), which means there is no hardware to buy and no additional system to manage.  Pricing is based on a monthly rate (billed quarterly, semi-annually or annually) according to the volume of data you have and the volume of use (bandwidth).

When you upgrade to an ILS that supports RDA, your data can be extracted from RDANow for incorporation into your own library database. This additional service ensures that your RDANow cataloging can be used in your future RDA-compliant system.
